What is the difference between XLOOKUP and VLOOKUP?

Four differences decide it. Direction: VLOOKUP searches left-to-right only; XLOOKUP searches any direction. Match default: VLOOKUP defaults to approximate (a classic grade-killer); XLOOKUP defaults to exact. Missing values: XLOOKUP takes an if_not_found argument; VLOOKUP needs IFERROR wrapping.
