Enter your categories and weights to see your current grade — then work out exactly what you need on the final to reach the grade you want.
The short answer
A weighted grade calculator multiplies each category score by its weight, adds the results and divides by the total weight. It can also solve backwards: enter your target grade and the final exam weight to see the score you need on the final, including whether that target is still reachable.
Current grade
86.6%
B
You need 97.8% on the final to finish with 90%
That is high but achievable. Your current average is 86.64% across 70% of the course.
=SUMPRODUCT(B2:B5,C2:C5)/SUM(B2:B5)Weighted average. Column B holds weights, column C holds scores.
=(Target - Current*(CompletedWeight/100))/(FinalWeight/100)Solve backwards for the final-exam score you need.
Weights add up to 100%.
Multiply each score by its weight as a decimal, add the results, then divide by the total weight used. For example, 80% at 30% weight and 90% at 70% weight gives 0.8×0.3 + 0.9×0.7 = 87%.
Enter your current categories, set the final exam weight, and type your target grade. The calculator solves for the final score. If the required score is above 100%, the target is no longer reachable with the remaining weight.
The default scale is the common US A–F cut-off (90/80/70/60). Use the scale selector to switch to a 10-point or 7-point scale; the weighted average itself is the same in every system.
Yes. The formula shown under the result is the same SUMPRODUCT/SUM structure used in a weighted gradebook, so you can copy it into your workbook and document the logic.
